Mary and Child

Happy June!  I can't believe it is here already!  Since it is a new month, it is time for another challenge from Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra.  As always, we are a month-long,  Anything (Christmas-related) Goes challenge and our Sponsor is Bugaboo Stamps.
Here is my card using the adorable "Mary and Child" image:
I love it when I get to make a Christmas card that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas, and this image is really so cute!  I hope you will get a chance to play along with us this month.  It is time to get working on your Christmas card stash if you haven't already!
I had created the strip of patterned paper stripes down the side a while ago when I was working hard to use up some of my scraps.  Adhering them like that really gives a fun touch!  It adds a pop (or pops) of color without having to have a strip of paper actually large enough to fit the space.

Supplies:
Stamps: Bugaboo Stamps "Mary and Child" digi stamp; Verve "Peace on Earth" sentiment
Dies/embossing folders: Spellbinders "Classic Circles, large"; Darice Woodgrain embossing folder

New Arrival

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for a new challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a fabulous sketch for you:
No automatic alt text available.
I say it all the time, I always start my card ideas with a sketch, and this one is perfect for so many different cards!  My brother and sister-in-law just had their third baby (and my second nephew!) and I created this cute little card for them to help celebrate!
Last summer, my mom bought me a whole box of stamping supplies (mostly from Stampin' Up!) at a yard sale and in that box was a container of these adorable little eyelets.  I've been having a lot of fun with them as it's really been a while since I thought about eyelets.  They are one of those things that we all HAD to have, but now you don't see too many of the being used.
I hope you will get a chance to play along with us this week.  This sketch is the perfect place to start your card.  And if you need any of these stamps I used (or any others from Repeat Impressions for that matter) check out my coupon in my left sidebar for 10% off your ENTIRE order.  Now, head on over to The House blog to see how the rest of the team used this sketch.

I created this fun anniversary card for my cousin and his wife.  It was the perfect way to use up some of my beautiful paper scraps that are getting too small to use for much else.
I popped up the outer two hearts on both the top and bottom rows and the center heart in the middle row.  It adds interest and dimension/texture without adding anything extra.

Sweet Strawberries

Happy Friday!!  It's time for another challenge from Jo's Scrap Shack.  As always, we are now an Anything Goes challenge and our sponsor for this week is Star Stampz.

I was given this adorable image to use and it's really so sweet!

The timing of this card is perfect because the strawberries in my own patch are starting to ripen!  Yumm!!  I can't wait.  We have a huge patch in my flower garden along the side of the house and it's so great to be able to walk out there and pick some.  Homegrown are so much better than store bought!  Anyway, obviously, my color theme needed to be red since strawberries are red.  And I had the perfect paper in my stash: red with white flowers ('cause strawberry flowers are white).  I have this paper forever (probably 15 or so years) and it needed some love.

Masculine Birthdays

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built and this week, it's a nice easy one: Anything Goes!  We know how much everyone loves those!  A couple months ago, I started sending out cards to people at our church for birthdays, get well, etc.  I figured I had LOTS of cards sitting around that I had made and this would be a great way to use them AND brighten some days at the same time.  Which is great for the women as I have lots of girly cards, but now I also have a lot of men that I need cards for and I don't have so many of them hanging around.  This week, I had several male birthdays to make cards for.  This first one is for my husband's grandfather.
I stamped the image in versamark and heat embossed it with white powder.  Then I sponged on some blue ink; love how it turned out!  After I dry embossed the blue panel, I sponged on some darker blue ink to really bring out the texture.
Since this is a square card, I needed to create an envelope with my envelope punch board and I finished it off by stamping the same image from the card.
And here is card #2:
I've had this hot air balloon stamp (yes, all three balloons are part of one stamp, I just cut them apart after stamping) for quite a while and had yet to ink it up.  This seemed the perfect opportunity and I knew they would look fabulous paper pieced.  And they do!!  (It's also a great way to use small scraps)  I had the clouds already cut out in my bits and pieces stash and they were the perfect embellishments.  I really love how this one turned out, too.
I hope you will get a chance to play along with us this week, I can't wait to see what you have created.  And remember if you "need" any of the stamps I have used, I have a 10% off your entire order coupon in my left sidebar.

Merry Christmas

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another challenge from The House That Stamps Built.  This week we have a beautiful photo inspiration challenge:
Image may contain: plant and flower
So, my card is a bit of a stretch for the photo inspiration, but let me explain.  As soon as I saw the colors, I wanted to make a Fall card, I mean, those are perfect Fall colors, right?  But, I'm not ready to make Fall cards ( I AM always ready to make Christmas cards, though.).  I was really caught by that dark brown and it was my starting place.  Then I pulled out the gold color and the light pink.  And that's how I was inspired by the photo, and here's my card:

I wanted to add a bit of interest to the darker pink layer, so I stamped a poinsettia image randomly all over with versamark.  It adds interest without being overwhelming.  I hope you will get a chance to play along with us this week.  I can't wait to see how you are inspired by this photo.  Hop on over to The House Blog to see how the rest of the team was inspired.

Project of the Week: paper piecing

It's my turn to post a Project of the Week for The House That Stamps Built.  Paper piecing is not a new technique by any means, but I thought I would share a few hints and tips that I like to use.  Here's what you need:
-your image
-card stock and patterned paper
-scissors (I like to use these scissors with little tiny blades, it helps maneuver around the image better) and I also used a craft knife for the little details
-a black marker
-ink
Stamp your image on your card stock and then again on the patterned paper.  This is a great way to use up some scraps; but I do like to use a pattern that I also use on the rest of the card.
Cut out the part of the image you want to use from the patterned paper and color your image stamped on the card stock.  Here's one of the tips: use a marker similar to your patterned paper to color around the edges of the part you will be covering up.  It helps just in case you didn't cut exactly right.  I also like to take the black marker and ink around the edges of the cut out piece.  This helps eliminate any white edges and again helps if you haven't cut it perfectly.
Then adhere you patterned paper piece onto your main piece.
I cut out the entire image and adhered it to my card.
I hope this encourages you to use the paper piecing technique, and hopefully my tips help a little bit.  Thanks for stopping by!

City of David

It's time for our mid-month inspiration post for Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra.  I was a bit crunched for time as I had a bunch of things to do and thought my parents were coming down for the weekend.  So, I decided to go CAS on this card.  (Turns out my parents weren't able to visit, but I still like the CAS card.)
Years, and years ago, someone gave me a LOT of cardbases.  Some were square, some were A2 and some were already pre-cut with various shapes.  So, this is one of the pre-cuts and I thought it would be really fun to stamp my sentiment on the inside and let it be the star of the show at the same time.  I stamped the flourish line under the sentiment in red to add a it of interest to it, die cut some super glittery snowflakes and added two groups of silver rhinestones.  And done!  The next photo shows how sparkly those snowflakes are!
I hope this inspires you to get working on those Christmas cards; it's never to early to get started!

Get well soon

Happy Friday!!  It's time for another challenge from Jo's Scrap Shack.  As always, we are now an Anything Goes challenge.  But this week we have a fun twist for you if you dare: use only patterned paper (at least 2) no solids.
Our sponsor this week is the fabulous Bugaboo Stamps:

I was given this adorable image to work with and here is my inspiration card using it:
I have a confession to make, though, I couldn't make it without using solids, but only for matting!  These were some freebie papers I found online (I'll link to it below).  I had a red and aqua color scheme in mind when I went looking for paper, but when I came across this set, I completely changed my mind.  I hope you will get a chance to play along with us this week, and maybe even try the twist.

Flowers for Mom

Happy Wednesday!  I hope you are enjoying some fine, spring weather.  We've had quite a bit of rain lately, but as I type this, the sun is out and shining!  It's time for a new challenge from The House That Stamps Built and this week we have a fun tic-tac-toe board:
No automatic alt text available.
Now, you only have to choose 3 items in a row for the challenge, but you can used as many as you want, even using the ENTIRE board like I did on my card!  Here it is:
Obviously, you can see how I used almost all of the items on the board to create my card.  I say almost because I forgot to color my image with colored pencils, but after I realized that it was on the board, I got them out and used them to create some extra shading in my image.  They really helped define the inside edges of the petals on the tulips.  And in real life, it gives a fun waxy/matte finish to the image.  I used a white gel pen to highlight tips of petals and leaves and then used a white colored pencil over top of it to help blend and highlight even more.
I'm not saying I will use this coloring technique all the time, but it did give a different look than was achieved with just markers.
I popped up the frame panel with foam tape to give it some distinction from the background.  And I masked the sentiment stamp before inking it up so I could have just the word "Mom" which fits perfectly on that adorable, little tag!  I really love how this card turned out!  If you "need" any of the stamps I used, check out my discount coupon in my left sidebar.  And make sure you hop over to The House blog to see what elements the rest of the team used from our board.

With all the details out of the way, here's my project.  I created a little gift bag and card combo for my husband's Step-Grandmother who's birthday is also this week.   Sit back and relax because this post is photo heavy!  I bought her this handmade goat's milk soap from a local farm.  Can you see all that lavender seed goodness on the top!?
Specially when I am giving a small gift, I really like to create some pretty packaging to go along with, so I made this cute little gift bag that is just the right size to hold the bar of soap.
Here is the closeup of the tag.  I recruited my oldest daughter to help with the flowers.  She punched out all the layers and then I showed her how to crumble them up until the fibers break down and you can separate the card stock into two layers.  It saved me a lot of time!!  Unfortunately, the photo doesn't show all 8 lovely, crumpled layers, but it is bit an fluffy.
And, of course, I had to make a coordinating birthday card.  My daughter also punched and crumbled the layers for this one.  The white definitely shows better in the pictures.
Because of the square shape of the card, I had to make my own envelope with my envelope punch board and I lightly stamped the image that goes with the leaf die I used on the card.
I used a small image from the same set to decorate the inside of the card, too:
And here is the picture of both the bag and card together:

Phew!!  You made it to the end!  Now you should head off to Megan Elizabeth's blog.  Thanks for stopping by!
